A hero is someone who helps people, saves peoples lives and risks their lives for someone else’s life. A hero can also be someone brave or cares for someone. Parents are heroes because they would do anything to help their children, even risk their lives for them. Heroes are people we look up to, creative, courageous, reliable, and resourceful! Heroes never give up on problems – they find a way to make a difference for the better.
Parents are everyday heroes who undertake a loving commitment to protect, care for and nurture their children to the best of their ability. You may be a biological parent, step-parent, grandparent, foster or adoption parent. Regardless, you are your child’s most important person.
Kudos to all the parents that are home with their children right now. You may have had to take on the new, challenging task of homeschooling possibly even while working from home. We salute you!
When the challenging times of today have passed, we are sure the bonds created during our time together will last a lifetime. We are all in this together navigating these unchartered waters, but it is the memories created while staying home that will outlast anything.
Here are a few ways to continue building your family bond:
- Develop a positive vision for your family. Remember the value of patience in helping a child to learn and grow.
- Demonstrate mutual respect. You are the caring and wise leader. Your child is the junior partner.
- Create daily routines. Children feel a sense of security when they know what will happen next, what to expect and what is expected of them.
- Create a scheduled time together that the children can count on. For example, have family activity time once a week whether it’s just to share stories, play a game or watch a movie.
- Create family traditions. Memories are what stick with us and while everyone is busier these days, traditions are more important than ever.
- Take day trips. Discover new places, go on a hike.
- Learn something new together.
